Leann has spent nearly thirty years encouraging community economic development, business and economic recovery, and entrepreneurship.
Since 2009, she has been the CEO of Economic Developers Alberta. Prior to that she served as an Executive Assistant to the Mayor of Calgary, and VP Promoting Calgary Inc.
Since 2013, Leann has been very active in business and economic recovery due to her experience with the Southern Alberta Floods and Fort McMurray wildfires. She Canadianized IEDC’s economic recovery and resiliency toolkit, and resiliency training course for Canadian communities. She also runs her own consulting firm and has travelled throughout the US and Caribbean on various recovery and resiliency assignments.
At the end of December 2017, she released her “Master Your Disaster” guidebooks to help individuals, businesses and communities prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters. She also works with the Institute for Sustainable Development (www.isdus.org) on innovative long term community recovery and resiliency programs; Jobenomics (www.jobenomics.com) on creating jobs for everyone; and in August 2019 she launched the MYD Global YouTube Channel to talk "all things disaster"
