When Social Issues Impede Local Business Retention, Expansion and Investment Opportunities
What are the Solutions?
More and more economic development organizations and Councils are faced with social issues that directly impact business retention, expansion and attraction efforts. Communities need to consider socio-economic challenges such as affordable housing, skills gaps and homelessness to name a few. Strategies are needed to support a vibrant business community and address socio-economic challenges concurrently, not exclusive of each other.
In this session, presenters will talk about traditional economic roles and the shift from business development to social development programs and how the two are directly connected. The panel will discuss the issues communities are facing and the solutions and resources that are available to help remove barriers and resume economic development activities.
